Title presentation by Kamil Aerts
Inhabited – occupied – liberated
Imagine taking a walk in Overloon before, but also during the German occupation. What did the village look like then? What was life like for its inhabitants? And what fate befell the inhabitants of Overloon during the rainy days of October 1944? Whereas other stories often focus on the military aspect, Kamil Aerts shines the light on Overloon and its inhabitants in this lecture.
Title presentation by Piet Peters
The week of the Americans
On 29 September 1944, Sherman tanks of the US 7th Armoured Division rumble into Sint Anthonis, most of them settling north of the Quayweg. The US armoured division takes over the front from the British. The division attempts to break through the German lines to reach Overloon from 30 September to 7 October, but stubborn resistance from the Germans brings the US attack to a final halt. However, the operation gains only a few kilometres of ground, and is marked by particularly high casualties. Piet Peters will give his lecture on these events.

Admission is free, refreshments are at your own expense.
