In the bright sunlight, the monument in Sint Anthonis casts its shadow over the stones, a rustic spot in the village. But at the same time, it is the spot that years ago was the dramatic finale of a series of events. In which the liberation of the village seemed to take place without any problems, but still took a big black edge.

During Christmas Eve 2021, 281 candles were lit on the graves of the fallen soldiers buried here at the Overloon War Cemetery. 

Of the 281 graves in this cemetery, 280 are of fallen soldiers from the UK. But in one grave rests ... a Dutchman.
