Glider pilot Briscoe

After safely grounding his glider, he fell into German hands and was subsequently imprisoned in Oflag IX A/H in the small town of Spangenberg in north-eastern Hesse, Germany. Oflag stands for Offizierslager, the German word for a POW camp.

The fatal fork junction

In the bright sunlight, the monument in Sint Anthonis casts its shadow over the stones, a rustic spot in the village. But at the same time, it is the spot that years ago was the dramatic finale of a series of events. In which the liberation of the village seemed to take place without any problems, but still took a big black edge.

Unveiling on 14 October 2021
