Return of award-winning film “In the Hour of Victory”
Following its overwhelming success on 14 October 2022, Overloon War Chronicles is once again organising a screening of the impressive film In the Hour of Victory at De Pit in Overloon. This unique documentary tells the story of Major Toby Smith, a Bermudian soldier whose courage and sacrifice during the Battle of Overloon had a lasting impact.
The film takes us on a moving journey that intertwines the history of the Battle of Overloon with the personal story of Major Anthony Frith Smith and his family. The result is a powerful tribute to those who fought for our freedom and reminds us of the importance of friendship and remembrance.
After its release, this award-winning documentary won several prizes at major international film festivals in the United States and the United Kingdom. Among other awards, the film won the Platinum Remi Award at WorldFest in Houston and the Best Director award at the Southampton International Film Festival.
The first screening was a great success, partly due to the presence of Jonathan D. Smith, the writer and grandson of Major Anthony Frith Smith, who came over from Bermuda especially for the occasion, and his son Jordan, the 4th generation Smith, who travelled from London to Overloon.

It is an inspiring experience that shows how the bond between Bermuda and Overloon is stronger than ever. We invite everyone to come and be inspired by this unique story.
The film is highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of the Second World War and the unforgettable stories of courage and sacrifice. The screening offers a rare opportunity to see this moving documentary in the area where the events took place.
The film will be shown on Saturday 11 October 2025 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6.30 p.m.) at De Pit in Overloon on 14 Oktoberplein.
Admission is free. A voluntary contribution is welcome!
