Looking back at Lights on War Graves 2025 in Overloon

Lichtjes op Oorlogsgraven Overloon 2025

On Christmas Eve, we gathered at Overloon War Cemetery for Lights on War Graves 2025. It was indescribably wonderful to see how much interest there was from adopters, residents, veterans from the Land van Cuijk, Mayor Marieke Moorman, Councillor Bouke van Vugt and many partners and other interested parties.

The music of Fanfare Vriendenkring and the Bag Pipers was heart-warming. There was visible emotion when hearing the song and story of John Victor Hawksby.

The hot chocolate and crackling fire added to the atmosphere and warmth, making it a very special gathering. As it slowly grew dark, the candles lit up the graves.

Albert Hendriks of Overloon Nieuws took some beautiful photos: Overloon Nieuws

The photo at the top of this news item is also his work.

Omroep Land van Cuijk was also present to record John Victor Hawksby’s song: Unique recording of John Victor Hawksby on Christmas Eve in Overloon

A beautiful composition was published by Geert Arts. Watch the film on YouTube. If desired, it is possible to add English subtitles to the film on YouTube in the right bottom corner of the film.

Candles were also placed at the military graves in Grave, Westerbeek and Sint Anthonis.

The Overloon War Chronicles team would like to thank everyone who made this afternoon a wonderful start to Christmas and showed that the soldiers at Overloon War Cemetery are not forgotten.
